the Milano Graduate School at New School University in New York notes that approximately 40% of new homes in California
are behind walls. Today, most subdivisions approved by Palm Beach County, Fla., are gated.
Homeowners buying or Main Line real estate feel these luxury communities provide a safe environment for children and to
live among people who share their values. And other property owners, feel that a gated community
provides a way of protecting the value of homes, the biggest investment for most Americans.
