The Main Line proper is a line of communities extending northwest from the City of Philadelphia. From Philadelphia, the stations on what is now referred to as the R5 train line are: Overbrook,[1] Merion, Narberth, Wynnewood, Ardmore, Haverford and Bryn Mawr, which inspired the mnemonic “Old Maids Never Wed And Have Babies”. The other rail line communities extending past Bryn Mawr are Rosemont, Villanova, Radnor, St. Davids, Wayne, Strafford, Devon, Berwyn, Daylesford, and Paoli. In recent years, the R5 train service has extended to the west of Paoli.Other communities, most notably Bala Cynwyd and Gladwyne are included in what is commonly accepted as the Main Line, as they both are typical Main Line communities and are adjacent to Main Line towns. Neither, however, is located on the rail line for which the area is named and therefore they may be considered culturally rather than geographically on the Main Line.A list of communities on the Main Line follows:- Ardmore

Sports | World Team Tennis thrills us each July as the Freedoms take over the courts at Cabrini College. Villanova University’s stadium is home to the Barrage, men’s major league lacrosse. And of course there’s Devon; the Devon Horse Show, famous for its pre-eminence in the equestrian world. For team sports there?s nothing like a major league sporting event at the region?s state-of-the-art facility, the Wachovia Center. In its short history, the Center has hosted some very memorable events. And, for those interested in their own athletic abilities, golf courses are abundant and magnificent. There?s indoor golf, archery ranges, skating parks, bowling alleys, and for girls and boys, it’s play ball on your local little league. | Shopping | From the Borough of Malvern, a unique small town village that dates back to the Victorian era, with Victorian facades, Victorian street lamps and brick pavers in both the revitalized business and residential districts – to malls, unique strip centers, boutiques, downtown shops?you name it! For necessity, for reward, for escape, for fun…yes, for entertainment, too – shopping is something we understand. |
